Ruined Towels
2025 | 30 unique towels | Variable sizes | Variable installation
Ruined Towels is an ongoing collection of towels stained by bleach and hair dye, gathered from queer communities. The towels carry traces of improvised hair salons, and acts of care that emerge as alternatives to mainstream hair salons and barbershops, reflecting on queer self-organization, intimacy, and survival through everyday gestures. They foreground minor, domestic actions such as cutting hair, dying hair and sharing time, as sites of resistance, transformation, and radical joy.
The archive currently consists of 30 towels. The public are invited to donate their towels, allowing the collection to grow.
