Everyday
2022 | 04:56 min | Full HD | Stereo
Everyday draws inspiration from a memorable scene in John Waters’ 1972 cult film Pink Flamingos, where the iconic drag queen Divine confidently strides through downtown Baltimore, causing onlookers to stop, turn, and stare. Undeterred, Divine challenges society’s impulse to marginalize and silence those who exist outside the norm, boldly claiming visibility and space at the center of attention.
In Everyday, this powerful moment is reimagined with performance artist Butcher Queen as they walk through the heart of Stockholm on a bright, sunny day. The piece reflects on themes of visibility, the act of taking up space, and the complex realities of navigating violence and societal scrutiny.
